Aloeswood is the resin-infused heartwood produced by certain Aquilaria and Gyrinops trees after injury — not a substance the tree makes under normal conditions, but a defensive response that, over years or decades, can concentrate into some of the most valuable aromatic material in the world. Grading depends less on the tree than on the circumstances of the wound: how it happened, how long it had to develop, and where.
